What an activation is actually for
The Road to UNBOUND Office Hours - Crossing an Ocean for the Part Nobody Schedules
We're not doing this to get clients out of it. It's brand building, and the message is small: we exist, we're app partners, you already have your HubSpot platform, and there are little things on top of it that make your life easier. We're one of them. That's the whole goal. I think it worked last year, so hopefully again.
How a quote ended up on a poster at INBOUND
The Road to UNBOUND Office Hours - Crossing an Ocean for the Part Nobody Schedules
A PM asked for my feedback once. Said they'd love to use a quote for "some things." They did not mention the some things included a poster on the floor at INBOUND. I found out by walking around a corner and seeing my own face. If I'd known, I'd have given them a better photo. Moral of the story: if a PM asks for your feedback, give it. You never know where it's going to show up.
The koala hunt, and doing it differently this year
The Road to UNBOUND Office Hours - Crossing an Ocean for the Part Nobody Schedules
Last year we hid koala bears around the venue with a thousand dollars attached to finding them. Great campaign. It also ate the whole event. I had almost no time for sessions or for actually talking to people. So this year we're teaming up with other app partners on a joint scavenger hunt instead. Find the partners, collect the four things, and you're in for the thousand. Same idea, and this time I get to attend the conference too.
How a piece of feedback became a session
The Road to UNBOUND Office Hours - Crossing an Ocean for the Part Nobody Schedules
Every year HubSpot asks for feedback and every year I say the same thing: there aren't enough real customer stories that don't feel like a sales pitch. This year someone asked if I wanted to turn that into a session. I said sure, fully expecting them to say no. They came back and offered thirty minutes on a stage. I was expecting floor three, a small room and a chair.
Always bring a friend
The Road to UNBOUND Office Hours - Crossing an Ocean for the Part Nobody Schedules
The schedule builder won't let you book two sessions back to back, and there will always be three things you want at the same time. So bring people. You go do the ninety-minute education session, I'll take the two that overlap in a weird way. That's the only way I've found to get everything in. Always bring a friend.
