The Road to UNBOUND - Seven Weeks Out: Show Us Your AI Build, and Why the Real One Is Invisible
July 29, 2026 · 46:23
Seven weeks out from Boston, the ride goes four-up: Rob Jones driving, George B. Thomas broadcasting from a half-unpacked new headquarters, Kyle Jepson on the eve of a month away, and Chris Carolan. It is the last episode before the show loses its HubSpot insider for all of August, and it turns into the most human hour the ride has had. The practical business gets handled early. Session signup is later in the calendar than it feels — VIP ticket holders reserve limited-capacity sessions on August 25, general admission opens September 1. Kyle has 21 videos and roughly an hour and fifteen minutes of content scheduled to run while he is gone, built around a constraint he could not solve any other way: he cannot demo what does not exist yet, so instead of chasing releases he is teaching the parts of HubSpot that are not new and should already be familiar. Then the episode finds its real subject, and nobody plans it. Rob names the feeling of being behind — the online echo chamber of people who built something remarkable in ten seconds — and says the thing he values most about being in the room is discovering that everyone else is figuring it out too. George answers it flatly: he finishes teaching an AI workshop people call mind-blowing, and his very next thought is that he is so far behind. Kyle adds the version from inside HubSpot — his knowledge is theoretical, he has never built a workflow his job depended on, and what a room the size of UNBOUND actually unlocks is the one other person who does your job in your industry. The advice that follows splits in two, deliberately. If you tend to speak up, make space. If you tend to hold back, speak up — get in the line at the mic and ask the question, because two or five or twenty-seven other people are waiting for someone to ask it. And then George, unprompted, near the end: comparison is the thief of joy. "Clip that and put it on the frickin' internet, because I'll back it up every day of the week." Four hosts, seven weeks out. Wednesdays to Boston.
